ABOUT THE BOOK

Somewhere Beyond Manhattan

A coming-of-age novel about self-discovery...and so much more...

When was the last time an author wrote a book that created a buzz, a movement that spanned years? Aside from the young adult novel Harry Potter, perhaps you would have to go back decades to 1950, when J.D. Salinger penned his famous novel The Catcher in the Rye. That book went on to critical acclaim, with Salinger’s anti-hero Holden Caulfield generating controversy that still resonates to this day. Catcher ended up selling over 65 million copies worldwide and was added to the required reading—and in some instances banned due to its content—by school systems throughout the country and beyond.

Fast forward to 2017. For the first time since Salinger’s Catcher comes a debut novel by author Terry F. Fields that seems to resonate in similar fashion. Fields protagonist is less anti-hero and more hero perhaps, but he has similar gripes against the adult world and takes his angst out on the overcrowded school he attends by cutting class for a day’s joy ride on the subway into Manhattan in search of himself. Instead, what young Myles Jericho discovers is an adventure for the ages.
